Our 4th Generation farm is located east of Didsbury, Alberta in the eastern shadow of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. From horse and buggy to the modern day tractor and buggy we're blessed with a farm perspective that comes with a deep appreciation for those before us. From Charles and Jean Kohut to Frank and Gayle Kohut and now Rick and Amy Kohut along with our children - we are doing our best with the knowledge we have about health, natural healing, holistic management, permaculture design and the time tested laws of nature to provide an abundant, regenerative food supply for both our family and our community for generations to come. Our farm has been through many changes through the years, including many years following the modern conventional model. But after noticing weed resistance to chemicals, deteriorating insect and wild animal populations as well as increased dependence on agricultural chemicals and fertilizers with escalating costs - it was clear that we needed to adjust our path. After learning more about year round grazing and creative ways of reducing chemical inputs we decided to pursue and new direction for our farm in 2008. There were a few years of experimentation and learning and by 2012 we chose to begin our transition and work towards our Organic Certification. Along with the help of the Holistic Management Program and a vibrant and supportive holistic farming network we started in a refreshing new direction. We've never looked back! Now that we have an holistic goal and guiding principles that align with our life we are enjoying success beyond our expectations. Just a few rewarding benefits include improved soil quality, higher quality crops, nutrient dense foods, happy customers, less dependence on the corporate grain and livestock buyers and a strong personal connection to our healthy, vibrant community. We are overjoyed to know that our efforts as high quality food producers is helping nourish our community directly, while simultaneously allowing us to continue and teach others the art of holistic farming. Thank you for supporting an ever-stronger local food system!
